Claimed my domain a month ago - do old pins get the attribution retroactively?

Claim went through in mid-August. New pins show my profile picture and the follow button. Pins from before the claim, including ones other people saved from my site years ago, still show nothing. There are thousands of those and they're most of my traffic.

Is that just how it is, or does it backfill eventually and I'm being impatient? Also - I removed the verification meta tag once it said claimed, was that a mistake?

Mine backfilled, but slowly and not completely. Took something like six weeks before older pins started showing attribution, and there's still a long tail of very old saves that never picked it up. I'd give it another month before worrying.

Leaving the tag in place costs you nothing and removing it has burned people whose claim got re-checked later. I'd put it back.

Separate from attribution, the claim is what makes those old pins show up in your analytics at all. If your top-pins report suddenly got a lot more interesting a few weeks after claiming, that's the same backfill.
