How many different pin designs per blog post are people making now?

Old advice was 5-10 designs per URL rotated over months. But what counts as a genuinely new pin seems to have tightened, and I keep reading that dropping a different text overlay on the same photo doesn't cut it anymore.

So what's the realistic number now? Three actually different images? Ten? And do you space them out or ship them all in one week?

Three to five per URL, genuinely different photos, spread over months. The "make ten variations" era was people gaming a file hash and that stopped working a while ago. If you only have one photo, you only have one pin.

This is exactly why I shoot for the pins now, not for the post. Three angles at the shoot means three real pins for nothing extra. Trying to manufacture variety in Canva afterwards out of one hero shot is where everybody gets stuck.

Spacing mattered more than count for me. Five designs over five weeks beat five designs in one week on the same URL, and going slowly I've never been anywhere near a spam flag.
