Five years of pinning, a lot of it from the group board era when I did not know what I was doing. Roughly 1,400 pins sitting at under 50 lifetime impressions. Half the advice says dead weight drags your account down, the other half says deleting in bulk looks like suspicious behaviour. I have a free weekend and I do not want to make things worse.
i have about 1,400 pins with under 50 impressions, does deleting them help or hurt

Deleted around 2,000 dead pins last spring and nothing happened in either direction. No drop, no recovery. Mostly a wasted weekend.
Be careful. Some of those are sitting in other people's boards and still send you a trickle. Zero impressions in your Pinterest analytics does not mean zero referrals in GA, so check the other side first.
The only ones I delete are pins pointing at URLs that no longer exist. A broken destination is a real problem. A boring pin is not.
Fix descriptions and board placement first. I have never seen mass deleting reliably fix a distribution problem for anyone, and dumping thousands at once is at minimum a strange looking pattern on an account.
