Every guide I open says 1000x1500, but half of them are recycling the same paragraph from years ago and I genuinely can't tell what's current. Meanwhile my feed is full of pins that are clearly taller than 2:3 and they seem to be doing fine.
Does anyone have a recent source, or has anyone actually tested a 4:5 or a 1:1 against a 2:3 for the same post? I don't want to redo 400 templates on vibes.
Pinterest's own best practice page still says 2:3 and still says other ratios may negatively affect performance, so that part isn't folklore. The taller pins you're seeing are people ignoring it and getting away with it, and mostly getting away with it on saves rather than clicks.
I ran 4:5 for about two months on recipe content because it let me show more of the plate. Impressions were roughly flat, outbound clicks were down maybe 15%. Small sample, one niche, take it how you like. I went back.
Don't redo 400 templates. Change the master, let new pins be 2:3, leave the old ones to do whatever they were already doing. Nobody has ever been rewarded for a retroactive resize.
Honest answer is the ratio matters a lot less than whether the thing is legible at thumbnail size. I've had 1:1 pins beat 2:3 pins on the same URL purely because the 1:1 had a better photo in it.
