I use a link plugin so I can swap merchants later without editing 200 posts by hand. Someone in a Facebook group insisted that any redirect reads as cloaking to Pinterest and will eventually kill the domain. I don't want to rip out a year of link management if that's just folklore being repeated.
Is running affiliate links through a /recommends/ redirect going to get me flagged?

There's a difference between a redirect and a disguise. Pinterest's affiliate guidance says the link should land on the product page and that some shortener services aren't supported - the actual problem is when the destination isn't what the pin promised. A redirect on your own verified domain that lands on exactly the product you pinned is a different thing from a shortener chain pointing somewhere unrelated. The change I'd actually make: stop putting the /recommends/ URL in the pin itself. Pin to the blog post and keep the redirect inside the post, where a human already chose to click it. Then the link Pinterest sees is a real page on a domain you own, and you keep the swap-merchants-later benefit.
