saves tripled this quarter but outbound clicks are completely flat

Alex Morgan

Craft and sewing blog. Saves went from about 1,200 a month in June to 3,900 in September. Outbound clicks have been parked between 3,900 and 4,200 the entire time. Everyone says saves are the strongest signal so I assumed clicks would follow eventually. Am I being patient or am I optimizing for the wrong number?

Saves are a signal, clicks are the outcome. If you are a blogger, optimize for clicks and let the saves happen on their own.

Partly disagree. Saves are a leading indicator, they buy you distribution three or four weeks out which shows up as clicks later. Reading this month's saves against this month's clicks will always look disconnected.

Look at where the reach is coming from. Home feed impressions save and do not click, search impressions click. If saves went up and clicks did not, you probably got shifted toward more feed surfaces, which is not something you did to yourself.

Your images might be answering the question too well. I had a recipe pin with the full ingredient list on the graphic doing huge saves and almost no traffic. Cropped the list off and clicks roughly doubled within a month.
