What I pin in January so the post-Christmas revenue cliff isn't as brutal

Emma Wilson

Three years of watching December do about 40% of my annual affiliate income and January come in at a fifth of that. The thing that finally helped wasn't a different niche, it was lead time - I now publish the January content in early November, while the pins still have weeks to pick up distribution. January buyers aren't gift buyers, they're planners: organisation, budgeting, meal prep, decluttering, wedding planning. Lower ticket per sale, but it's only an empty month if you show up on January 2nd with nothing queued.

The November lead time is the whole trick and hardly anyone does it. If you publish on January 1st the algorithm has no idea what the pin is yet, and by the time it figures it out the search volume has moved on.

Mine is the opposite shape entirely - home renovation, and January/February are my peak while December is dead. Worth remembering the cliff is a niche thing, not a platform thing.
